In this episode of the FFI Practitioner Podcast, host Jordan Rich speaks with Charles Avery Fisher about the often-overlooked personal challenges that accompany inherited wealth.

Drawing on both his professional work with inheritors ages 19 to 50 and his own experience inheriting money at age 21, Fisher discusses what happens when financial freedom arrives before there is a clear sense of identity, purpose, or direction. When he inherited wealth, Fisher says there was no one to talk with about questions of self-worth, relationships, or the challenge of deciding what to do with his life when so many choices suddenly seemed available.

Fisher explores five of the most important areas facing people with inherited wealth, including questions of identity, purpose, relationships, and belonging. He also addresses one of the greatest risks for inheritors: social isolation. The conversation offers family enterprise advisors insight into the emotional and developmental issues that may exist alongside financial wealth—and why creating space for these conversations matters.

Fisher will continue the discussion as a presenter at the 2026 FFI Global Conference, FFI at 40: Paradigm Shifts, October 28–30 in New York City.
